A tarn is a small mountain lake, the kind you reach after the steep part of a walk, when the dog is soaked, the wind has picked up and you are glad of every layer you brought. Tarnhound is named for that moment, and everything in the range is judged against it.
Fewer things, made properly
Thirteen pieces, not a hundred. Each one has a job: keep the rain off, keep the cold out, dry off after the sea, stay visible on a dark lane. If a piece does not earn its place on a wet walk, it is not in the range.
The idea is simple. Make fewer things, in fewer colours, that fit properly and last. Size everything by the one measurement that decides whether a coat does its job. And when something breaks, mend it rather than sell another one.
Fitted on real dogs
Patterns are cut to back length and tried on dogs of every shape the size covers, from long and lean to short and deep-chested. That is why the calculator asks for the chest as well as the back.
Sent in paper, kept for years
Orders go out in plain recycled paper and card. When a buckle snaps or a strap tears, send it back and we replace the part. The best coat is the one you already own.
